Six selected for inaugural Legends for Kids Scholarship

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Six graduating high school seniors have been selected for the inaugural Legends for Kids Scholarship, a $5,000 award recognizing exceptional character in leadership in athletics and school involvement.

Developed in conjunction with Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends, the scholarship program was created by Hy-Vee, Sanford and First PREMIER with support from Argus Leader Media and KELOLAND Television. Recipients must use the scholarship for post-secondary education.

The following graduating seniors were selected based on nominations from coaches, teachers and administrators:

  • Tate Deinert – Mt. Vernon
  • Luke Fritsch – Sioux Falls O’Gorman
  • Danielle Gottsleben – Watertown
  • Hunter Johnson – Wolsey-Wessington
  • Amanda Mace – West Sioux (Iowa)
  • Carter Van Gorp – Sioux Falls Christian

The 2016 Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends events run June 9-21 around Sioux Falls. This year’s list of celebrities includes Chad Greenway, Kent Hrbek, Bob Knight, Alan Page, Tim Laudner, Mike Miller and Mike Modano.

The Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends program provides learning opportunity for young student-athletes to grow and be inspired in the world of sports by providing different sporting clinics and camps. Each year, celebrity athletes who represent the Legends goals—quality, integrity and character—are brought to Sioux Falls.
